Chapter History

Fifty-one members of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority came together to found a new chapter in the southern sector of Dallas County. On April 30th, 2004, the Southwest Dallas County Alumnae Chapter (SWDCA) officially launched a new era of community service concentrated in the area for which it was named.
The chapter charter members are unique because many were non-active sorority sisters with the desire to rededicate themselves to public service – the basic tenet of the organization. They come from every part of the United States and various professional backgrounds. The charter members are Marline Nkemdemlim Anyaibe, Joycelyn Marie Mitchell Caesar, Stephanie Lynn Carter, Esther Denise Roache Davis, Neldra Christman-Davis, Pier Glover Crenshaw, Derlyn Louise Branch Daniels, Geanenita White Darlington, Jacquelonne Larisia Davis, Gilberta Jean Dickey, Sarah E. SWDCA joined three other Dallas area chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Today, there are over 1,000 chapters worldwide. The sorority was founded in the nation’s capital on the campus of Howard University in 1913.
